September 20th 2008: Deer Stag, Hoge Veluwe

<Deer Stag, Hoge Veluwe
Day two at Hoge Veluwe. Today we wandered through the woods somewhat unsuccessfully to try and find some mushrooms to photograph, and ended up on the wildbaanweg again in the late afternoon in readiness for the day's rutting.

Still haven't seen any contact rutting, but the stags are getting friskier.

Deer Stag, Hoge Veluwe

Both shots taken with the D3, 600mm f/4G VR and TC-14e

Simon,

Excellent pictures of the stags. The 600mm looks awesome!

Magnificent pic! What is the technique for keeping a 600mm straight? Tripod?

@Milliped: Yes, and a pretty heavy duty one at that. Although the lens does have VR (image stabilisation) the sheer weight of the lens makes it pretty much impossible to hand hold for more than a couple of minutes, so I use Gitzo legs together with a Manfrotto fluid video head.
